History of Oklahoma Pharmacy

Profiles II

You are invited to join with the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association in the production and distribution of a hard cover publication containing biographical sketches with unique stories of Oklahoma pharmacy from previous decades. This book will be similar to the first volume in the series and consist of images and fascinating stories about Oklahoma pharmacists and the profession, beginning in early-day Indian Territory.

This OPhA book, Volume 2 of “Profiles of Oklahoma Pharmacy,” is currently in production and will be distributed during the first quarter of 2011. We are hoping to be able to send the book to state officials, libraries, and historical organizations as well. In addition, we plan to send as many books as resources will permit to the nationwide pharmacy community.

Your participation as a partner in this project will be important for pharmacy in Oklahoma. It will help determine the quality of the book and the extent of its distribution. Furthermore, your donation will be directed to our Oklahoma Pharmacy Educational Foundation (OPEF) and is tax-deductible. Your help with this project is greatly appreciated by the OPhA.

The intent of this publication is to provide a tribute to those who have made significant contributions to the profession of pharmacy in Oklahoma and to inspire future generations of pharmacists.

Make checks payable to the Oklahoma Pharmacy Educational Foundation and send to us at P.O. Box 18731, Oklahoma City, OK 73154.

Drug Abuse Video

"Road to Nowhere"

The prevention of prescription drug abuse by our state’s youth requires the united effort of all members of the community. As the gatekeepers of prescription drugs, pharmacists are a vital link in the chain and can have a dramatic impact on preventing prescription drug abuse. Pharmacists, as prescription drug experts, have a unique opportunity to provide education about the dangers of the misuse of medications among teenagers, and provide education about the prevention of diversion to their parents.

The Oklahoma Pharmacists Association (OPhA) Education Foundation (a non-profit foundation-501C-3) is teaming with the Oklahoma chapter of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) to produce a video on the misuse of prescription drugs among our state’s youth. The video and educational materials will be made available free for pharmacists and others to show to schools and youth groups, and will give pharmacists the opportunity to talk with kids about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. The video will be provided with a complete set of “talking points” for pharmacists to use to initiate the discussion portion of the presentation. These “talking points” will provide a pharmacist a complete background on diversion, prevention, use and misuse of prescription drugs.

We are asking for your assistance in this important project. In order to complete the video production and pay distribution costs, estimated at about $25,000, the OPhA Educational Foundation is conducting a fundraising drive which we hope to complete within 30-60 days. As a non-profit foundation, your gifts to help fund the video are tax deductable
